Inter-Regional Dynamics

5.1 Historical Alliances & Conflicts

The Frostborn's interactions with other regions of Landorya are limited by the harsh environment they inhabit, but they are not entirely isolated. They have a long-standing alliance with the Dwarves of the Ironspine Mountains, trading furs and ice gems for metalwork and crafted goods. They maintain a strong alliance with the Eldorians, exchanging resources and knowledge. Despite their differing environments, the Frostborn and Drakonians share a mutual respect for strength and combat prowess, occasionally forming military alliances against common threats. In the past, they have come into conflict with the Aeriels of Caelum over hunting grounds in the border regions between their territories, and they can come into conflict with the Drakonians over territory in the mountains.

5.2 Diplomatic Relations

The Frostborn maintain diplomatic relations with other regions primarily through the Council of Chiefs and their Emissaries. They are known for their straightforward and honest approach to diplomacy. The Frostborn maintain a stance of cautious neutrality in the wider political affairs of Landorya but will engage with the outer world when necessary to maintain the balance and security of their lands.

Notable Emissaries in Frostborn history include Vigdis Farspeaker, who negotiated the first formal trade compact with the Dwarves of the Ironspine Mountains over two centuries ago, and Halvard Bridgewalker, the current Chief Emissary, known for his measured temperament and fluency in six languages.

5.3 Trade & Economic Interactions

The Frostborn engage in trade with other regions, offering rare furs, ice gems, and magical artifacts in exchange for goods they cannot produce themselves, such as certain metals and foodstuffs. The Eldorians, as skilled craftsmen, have trade agreements with the Frostborn, providing high-quality metalwork, weapons, and magical items. The Dwarves trade mithril-alloy and forge-steel for Frostborn ice-stone and geothermal alloys.

The primary trade route is the Ironveil Pass, a narrow mountain corridor connecting the Frostbound Wastes to the Ironspine Mountains. Maintained jointly by the Ironveil Clan and the Dwarves, this route sees regular caravan traffic during the summer months and limited but critical supply runs even in winter. A secondary trade path, the Auroral Road, runs southeastward toward Eldorian territories, though it is longer and more dangerous.

5.4 Cultural Exchange

While the Frostborn do not often travel beyond their lands, they do engage in cultural exchanges with those who brave the journey to visit them. They are known for their storytelling traditions, which often revolve around the myths and legends of the ice and snow.

5.5 Tourism & Guided Expeditions

Tourism in the Frostbound Wastes is limited, but some adventurers do seek out the Frostborn for their unique skills and the challenging environment they inhabit. In recent generations, a small but growing number of southern scholars and thrill-seekers have made the journey, drawn by tales of the aurora, the ancient ruins beneath the ice, and the legendary hospitality of the Hearthshare tradition.
