Physical Characteristics

2.1 Appearance & Build

The Frostborn are a tall and sturdy race, with broad shoulders and thick, muscular builds that allow them to withstand the biting cold. Their skin is pale, almost translucent, with a slight bluish tint that helps them blend into their icy surroundings. Their hair is often of a pale hue - white, silver, or light blue - and their eyes are known to be as clear and piercing as the glacial ice they call home.

2.2 Environmental Adaptations

Over countless generations, the Frostborn have developed unique abilities tied to their environment, including resistance to cold, enhanced vision in low-light conditions, and an intuitive understanding of ice and snow. Their thick, muscular builds serve both as insulation and as the physical foundation for the demanding lifestyle of the Frostbound Wastes.

Their blood runs with a faint trace of elemental cold, a phenomenon scholars call "frostblood." This allows them to remain active and alert at temperatures that would leave other races incapacitated. Their eyes contain a reflective layer similar to that found in arctic predators, granting them excellent vision during the long twilight months and even in near-total darkness. Their lungs have adapted to extract warmth from frigid air, and their extremities maintain circulation far more efficiently than those of southern peoples.

2.3 Lifespan & Reproduction

The Frostborn population is relatively small and scattered across the vast expanse of the Frostbound Wastes. They live in small, tight-knit clan-based communities, each clan typically numbering between 50 to 200 individuals. The harsh environment and the challenges of survival keep the population growth slow.

Frostborn typically live to around 120 years, with elders occasionally reaching 150 or more. Their long lifespans, combined with harsh living conditions, mean that each individual is deeply valued by their clan. Births are celebrated as profoundly joyous occasions, and newborns are presented to the clan during a ceremony called the Frost Naming, where the shaman reads the patterns of ice crystals to divine the child's destiny.

2.4 Distinguishing Marks

Each clan develops subtle physical variations over generations. The Whitepeak clan, who dwell at the highest altitudes, tend toward silver-white hair and particularly pale eyes. The Deepglacier clan, who live beneath the ice in carved-out cavern systems, have developed a more pronounced bluish skin tint. The Windrunner clan, who traverse the open plains, tend to be the tallest and leanest of the Frostborn, built for endurance over raw strength.
