Architecture & Infrastructure
21.1 Design Philosophy
Eldorian homes and public spaces are marvels of natural architecture, seamlessly blending with the forest. They are spaces of beauty and functionality, designed for communal living and harmony with the environment.
All Eldorian construction follows the principle of "growing, not building." Rather than felling trees, Eldorian druids and woodweavers coax living trees into architectural forms over the course of years or decades. The result is a seamless union of structure and nature, where walls are living bark, roofs are woven canopy, and windows are natural gaps in the foliage.
21.2 Materials
- Living Ironbark Wood (primary structural material, grown and shaped by magic)
- Spider-silk Thread (used for bindings, textiles, and decorative elements)
- Enchanted Resin (a waterproof sealant derived from ironbark sap)
- Moonstone Crystal (used for windows and light fixtures)
- Forest Clay (insulation and fireproofing)
21.3 Iconic Structures
- Oakenhall: The capital city, with towering spires and graceful arches all grown from living trees.
- The Heart Grove: Sacred ceremonial center at the heart of Eldoria.
- The Temple of the Twin Gods: Grand circular temple divided between Solarius and Lunaria.
- Tree-house Guest Lodges: Accommodations for visitors, magically grown and shaped from living wood.
- The Canopy Walkways: Elevated pathways linking the upper levels of tree-cities, allowing travel through the canopy without touching the forest floor.
21.4 Temples and Sacred Sites
The Eldorians build beautiful temples and shrines that harmonize with the natural landscape, using materials like wood, stone, and crystal. The Elemental Shrines in each settlement and the Grove of Wisdom are key sacred sites.
21.5 Transportation Infrastructure
- Canopy Walkways (elevated pathways between trees)
- Root Roads (paths woven from tree roots, firm and even)
- River Barges (flat-bottomed craft for transporting goods along Eldoria's waterways)
- Steam Trains and Steamships (powered by magical crystals for long-distance travel and trade)
21.6 Water and Sanitation
Eldorian settlements draw water from deep forest springs, channeled through living root-pipe systems that naturally filter and purify. Waste is composted using druidic accelerants that break down organic matter within days, returning nutrients to the forest floor. The entire system operates without visible infrastructure, hidden within the living architecture of the settlement.
