Geography & Settlements
7.1 Landscape
Eldoria is a land of verdant forests, rolling hills, and clear, sparkling rivers.
7.2 Key Locations
- The Heart Grove: This ancient forest, located at the center of Eldoria, is considered sacred. It is here that the most important rituals and ceremonies are held.
- Oakenhall: The capital city of Eldoria, Oakenhall is a marvel of wood-crafted architecture, with towering spires and graceful arches all grown from living trees.
- The Grove of Wisdom: This ancient grove of towering trees is where the Eldorians go to meditate, study, and seek guidance. It is said that the whispering of the leaves contains the wisdom of the ages, for those who know how to listen.
- The Crystal Caves: These glittering caverns, filled with luminous crystals, are where the Eldorians go to connect with the energy of the earth. The crystals are believed to have healing and balancing properties, and are often used in rituals and meditations.
- The Temple of the Twin Gods: This grand, circular temple is divided into two halves, one dedicated to Solarius and one to Lunaria. In the center is a sundial that casts a perfect balance of light and shadow at the equinoxes.
- The Elemental Shrines: In each Eldorian settlement, there are four shrines dedicated to the elemental spirits, often located in natural settings that embody the element
a mountain cave for the Mountain King, a waterfall for the River Queen, a wind-swept hill for the Whispering Wind, and a lava field for the Dancing Flame.
7.3 Additional Named Settlements
- Ambervale: A prosperous trading town situated where the Silverrun River meets the southern trade road. Known for its bustling market square and the Amber Bridge, a broad span of living ironbark that arches over the river. Ambervale is the primary point of commercial contact between Eldoria and the Drakonian territories.
- Thornwatch Keep: A fortified outpost on the eastern border of Eldoria, built into and around a massive ironbark grove. The Keep is headquarters of the Greenwood Rangers and serves as the first line of defense against incursions from the Drakonian borderlands. Commander Kael Thornguard oversees its garrison of three hundred rangers.
- Dewmere: A lakeside village nestled beside the still waters of Lake Dewmere in the western hills. The village is known for its freshwater pearl divers and the annual Lantern Drift, during which thousands of enchanted lanterns are set afloat on the lake to honor the ancestors. The druid Maren Stillwater maintains a renowned healing sanctuary on the lake's northern shore.
- Frostleaf Marches: The northern frontier region where Eldorian forests thin into the subarctic territories bordering the Frostborn. Settlements here are smaller and hardier, and their inhabitants have developed unique cold-weather adaptations of sylvan magic.
7.4 Habitat and Architecture
Eldorians live in harmony with their forest environment. Their cities and villages are built around and among the trees, with buildings grown and shaped from living wood using ancient magic.
7.5 Climate
Eldoria enjoys a temperate climate, with mild summers and cool winters. The dense forests help to regulate temperature and rainfall. The Frostleaf Marches in the north experience harsher winters with occasional snowfall, while the southern river valleys around Ambervale enjoy longer, warmer growing seasons.
7.6 Regional Flora and Fauna
Eldoria's forests are home to a wide variety of plants and animals, many of which possess magical properties. (See also Section 4 and Section 15.)
