Social Structure & Interaction
19.1 Social Hierarchy
Eldorian society is structured around the ideals of honor, duty, and harmony with nature.
- The Monarch: King or Queen, head of state and symbolic embodiment of Eldorian values.
- The Council of Regions: Elected representatives who govern alongside the Monarch.
- Druids: Spiritual leaders with significant social and political influence.
- Master Craftsmen and Guild Leaders: Respected artisans who guide economic life.
- Rangers and Knights: Warriors and protectors who earn honor through service.
- Common Folk: Farmers, laborers, and tradespeople who form the backbone of society.
- Apprentices and Students: The young, learning their craft and place in the community.
19.2 Interaction with the Environment
Eldorians see themselves not as separate from their environment, but as an integral part of it. They interact with the forest and its creatures as one would with cherished friends and family.
19.3 Noble Houses
Eldoria contains several noble houses, each associated with a particular region and set of traditions. While noble birth confers certain privileges and responsibilities, the Eldorian emphasis on merit ensures that commoners of exceptional skill can rise to positions of great influence. The potential for internal conflicts between noble houses is a recognized weakness in Eldorian society, though the Council of Regions and the Rite of Balance serve as mechanisms for resolving such disputes peacefully.
19.4 The Major Noble Houses
The most prominent noble houses include:
- House Greensong: Descended from Elara Greensong, this house holds influence over the Heart Grove region and the druidic traditions. Their seat is a cluster of ancient trees known as the Singing Boughs.
- House Thornguard: Wardens of the eastern border and patrons of the Greenwood Rangers. Their seat is Thornwatch Keep. Commander Kael Thornguard is the current head of the house.
- House Ambervale: Merchants and diplomats who control the southern trade routes. They are known for their cosmopolitan outlook and their willingness to engage with other races.
- House Dewmere: Stewards of the western lakes and rivers, known for their pearl-diving traditions and their patronage of the arts. The healer Maren Stillwater is a prominent member.
- House Frostleaf: Hardy northerners who guard the border with the Frostborn territories. They have the closest ties to the Frostborn alliance and specialize in cold-weather survival and hybrid magical techniques.
