Structure
3.1 Political System
The Eldorians are governed by a constitutional monarchy, with a King or Queen as the head of state and a council of elected representatives from each of the major regions.
The Eldorian government is divided into three main branches: the Monarchy, the Council of Regions, and the Judiciary.
The Council of Regions is composed of elected representatives from each of the major regions of Eldoria. They are responsible for creating and amending laws, overseeing the allocation of resources, and advising the Monarch on matters of state. Representatives to the Council of Regions are elected every five years by popular vote within their respective regions.
The role of the President in Eldorian government is held by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is appointed by the Monarch and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the government and ensuring that the Council's decisions are implemented. The Prime Minister serves at the pleasure of the Monarch.
The Eldorian government includes several ministries, each responsible for a specific aspect of governance, such as the Ministry of Natural Harmony, the Ministry of Crafts and Trade, and the Ministry of Education and Lore.
The Eldorian Judiciary is responsible for interpreting and applying the law. Judges are appointed by the Monarch on the advice of the Council of Regions and serve for life, ensuring their independence from political influence.
Each of the major regions of Eldoria has a degree of autonomy in managing its own affairs, under the overall governance of the Monarch and the Council of Regions.
Eldoria maintains diplomatic relations with other races and realms through the Office of the Herald, which is responsible for managing the realm's public image and conducting diplomacy. Heralds regularly exchange visits and messages with other regions, and Eldorians are known for their fair and honest dealings.
3.2 Technology & Magic Integration
Eldorian technology is a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and nature-based magic. The technological level is moderate to high, with a focus on craftsmanship, metalworking, and the integration of magic and technology. Eldorian tools include advanced metalworking techniques, enchanted armors, and mechanical devices powered by magical energy sources.
Technologies:
- Woodcrafting: Eldorians are master woodworkers, able to create everything from sturdy buildings to intricate works of art.
- Metalworking: Eldorian metalsmiths are renowned for their ability to create weapons and armor of exceptional quality, often enchanted with protective spells.
Eldoria is known for its innovative blend of steam power and magical energy sources, resulting in highly efficient and powerful machinery.
Mechanisms of Steam and Magic Integration:
- Transportation: Steam trains and steamships powered by magical crystals ensure swift and efficient travel.
- Manufacturing: Automated looms and mills increase production efficiency.
- Domestic Appliances: Devices for cooking and cleaning are enhanced with magical energy for better performance.
Energy Sources:
- Magical Crystals and Runes: Eldoria uses renewable magical crystals and runes as energy sources. This reduces reliance on coal or wood, thereby minimizing environmental impact.
Innovation Culture:
- Institutions and Guilds: Eldoria hosts several institutions and guilds dedicated to the advancement of magical technology, fostering a culture of continuous innovation and invention.
Eldorians prioritize sustainability in all their endeavors. They use magic to encourage the growth of trees used for building, ensuring a continuous supply without damaging the forests.
Magic is interwoven into nearly all aspects of Eldorian technology. Bows are enchanted for greater accuracy, buildings are warded against fire and decay, and farming tools are imbued with spells for better harvests.
Eldorians rely on a network of magical messengers, often in the form of enchanted creatures like birds or butterflies, to carry messages over long distances. For record-keeping, they use enchanted crystals that can store and replay images and sounds.
3.3 Military
The Eldorian military, known as the Sylvan Guard, is responsible for defending the realm and maintaining peace. They are known for their skill with the bow and their ability to move silently through the forests.
The Sylvan Guard is organized into several specialized divisions:
- The Greenwood Rangers: scouts and skirmishers who patrol the borders of Eldoria, gathering intelligence and intercepting threats before they reach the heartland.
- The Ironbark Sentinels: heavy infantry equipped with enchanted armor crafted from ironbark wood and mithril alloy, serving as the backbone of Eldorian defense.
- The Moonbow Archers: elite sharpshooters who use enchanted longbows capable of striking targets at extraordinary range with unerring precision.
- The Druid Wardens: battle-mages who channel sylvan magic to support the Guard, creating barriers of thorns, commanding forest creatures, and healing the wounded in the field.
Eldorian military doctrine emphasizes defense over aggression, using the forest itself as a weapon. Concealed treetop positions, magically animated root-snares, and misleading forest paths are all standard tactical elements. When forced to engage in open battle, the Sylvan Guard relies on speed, precision, and coordinated archery volleys followed by swift retreat into the tree line.
3.4 Law and Justice
Eldorian law is grounded in the principles of balance and restoration rather than punishment. When a crime is committed, the Judiciary convenes a tribunal that includes not only appointed judges but also a druid representative, whose role is to assess the spiritual and natural dimensions of the offense. Penalties typically involve restorative service
a poacher might be required to spend a decade tending the grove they damaged, while a thief must repay not only the victim but also contribute to the community granary. The most severe sentence an Eldorian court can impose is exile from the forest, a punishment considered worse than death by many Eldorians, as it severs the offender from the ambient magic and communal bonds that sustain them.
3.5 Ministries and Offices
The principal ministries of the Eldorian government include:
- The Ministry of Natural Harmony: oversees environmental policy, conservation, and druidic coordination.
- The Ministry of Crafts and Trade: regulates guilds, sets quality standards, and manages trade agreements with other realms.
- The Ministry of Education and Lore: administers schools, libraries, and the regulation of magical practice.
- The Ministry of Defense: coordinates the Sylvan Guard and maintains border security.
- The Office of the Herald: manages diplomacy, foreign relations, and the realm's public image.
- The Office of the Chronicler: responsible for maintaining the official historical record, archiving treaties, and documenting important events in enchanted crystal archives.
