23.1 Magical Infrastructure

Eldorian magic and technology are deeply intertwined, with magic pervading every aspect of daily life, governance, and defense.

  • Spell-lights: Enchanted light sources used throughout Eldorian settlements, powered by captured moonlight and ambient magical energy.
  • Warding Network: Buildings and settlements are warded against fire, decay, and hostile magic through layers of protective enchantments maintained by druid wardens.
  • Enchanted Crystal Archives: Crystals that can store and replay images and sounds, used for record-keeping and the preservation of important knowledge.
  • Magical Messenger Network: Enchanted creatures
    birds, butterflies, and whisperwings
    carry messages across great distances, forming a reliable communication system.

23.2 Arcane Disciplines Practiced in Eldoria

  • Sylvan Magic (primary): Nature communion, healing, growth manipulation.
  • Runecraft (secondary): Inscribing runes for enhancement, protection, and warding. Eldorian Rune-Scribes are recognized experts, sought for cross-regional endeavors.
  • The Harmony Arts (unique): Elemental Attunement, Nature's Healing, Wisdom's Sight, and the Art of Balance.
  • Steam-Magic Integration: The fusion of steam power and magical energy sources to power machinery, transportation, and domestic devices.

23.3 Energy Sources

Magical crystals and runes serve as renewable energy sources throughout Eldoria. These reduce reliance on coal or wood, thereby minimizing environmental impact. Crystals power everything from steam trains and steamships to automated looms and domestic appliances.

23.4 Arcane Governance

The Ministry of Education and Lore oversees the teaching and regulation of magic. The druids serve as the primary authority on the ethical use of sylvan magic, while the Runesmiths' Lodge regulates the practice of runecraft. Any new magical innovation must be assessed for its impact on the natural balance before it can be deployed.

23.5 The Ley-Root Network

Beneath the surface of Eldoria, the root systems of the great ironbark trees are interlaced with veins of magical energy that the druids call the Ley-Root Network. This network functions as a natural conduit for sylvan magic, allowing druids to channel healing energy across vast distances, detect disturbances anywhere in the forest, and communicate through root-touch
a technique in which a druid places their hands against an ironbark trunk and sends a pulse of intention through the network. The Ley-Root Network is believed to be the source of Eldoria's exceptional magical vitality and is carefully tended by the Druid Wardens.
