Culture & Society
Aurixian culture is profoundly memorial in character, shaped by the belief that to forget is to betray the ancestors who shaped the mountains. The Ministry of Lore & Memory, custodian of the Crystal Archives, is among the most revered institutions in the empire, its archivists regarded as the living conscience of civilization. Eldraxis the Memory Keeper and Echo the Memory Keeper are the ministry's most celebrated figures, known across the empire for their ability to recite unbroken lineages stretching back thousands of years.
Aurixian society is stratified by age, power, and the presence of a living sigil — the rune-etched patterns on a dragon's forehead that pulse when magic is channeled. A dragon's social standing rises through clearly defined growth stages: from Hatchling to Fledgling, from Drake to Elder, and finally, for the extraordinarily rare, to Ancient. Elders serve as mentors, judges, and spiritual guides; Ancients are living legends whose bodies begin merging with the landscape itself.
Mortal Drakonians form an essential second tier of society, organized into noble houses, regional guilds, and the Shard-Guilds. The sub-types of dragons within Aurixia have developed distinct cultural identities of their own. Ash Wyrms — prized as artists, sculptors, and philosophers — maintain their own contemplative tradition alongside the formal Crystal Archives. Flame Wyrms form the backbone of military and industrial culture. Aether Drakes hold near-mythical status, bonded only with the most gifted Drake-Riders. Shadow Drakes occupy a place of theological unease, debated endlessly as either a natural expression of draconic diversity or a corruption born of the Dark Times.
