The Dragon Empire of Aurixia was founded in the Age of Myths by the primordial dragons, beings so ancient that their earliest deeds are recorded only in the deepest strata of the Crystal Archive. No mortal kingdom rivals its antiquity; Aurixia predates all of them by thousands of years, and the empire measures its own history not in centuries but in the growth stages of its eldest members.

The period known as the Dark Times constitutes the central trauma of Aurixian history. Details preserved in the Crystal Archive describe this era as a time of catastrophic imbalance — an age in which the Ash-Balance Doctrine was violated, fire-magic ran unchecked, and the consequences reshaped the empire's political and theological identity permanently. It was in the aftermath of the Dark Times that the Balance Codex was enacted, imposing strict regulatory limits on fire-magic output. The theological status of the Shadow Drakes is bound up in this period: scholars of the Ministry of Lore & Memory debate whether they represent a natural variation or a corruption born of the Dark Times' excesses.
