Geography & Settlements

The imperial capital anchored by the Heart-of-Fire Citadel sits at the geographic and spiritual center of Aurixia, built into the caldera of the Drakon Range's largest dormant volcano. The Citadel houses both the Elder Dragon Council chamber and the Basalt Triad obelisk, and its beacon broadcasts empire-wide alerts across the Drake-Runes network in a language of heat signatures that dragons perceive as physical vibrations. Crystal towers distributed throughout the empire transmit flame-pulses, enabling near-instant communication across eyries and Drakonian shires alike.

The city of Ember-Throne — the largest Drakonian mortal settlement — fans outward from the Citadel's base, its forge-districts humming with the labor of Shard-Guild craftsmen who produce the rune-etched goods that sustain the empire's economy. Runic Forge-Lattices embedded in furnace walls allow temperature control precise to fractions of a degree, and the city's streets are paved with heat-resistant basalt inlaid with guidance runes that glow orange after sunset.

Ash-Hollow, principal settlement of the Ashen Plains, serves as Aurixia's contemplative heart — a city of silence and long memory where Ash Wyrm philosophers maintain the secondary branches of the Crystal Archive and produce the ash-sculpted artworks for which the plains are renowned. In the Flame-Crest Highlands, the fortress-eyrie of Storm-Peak commands the highest passable altitude, its Storm Wyrm garrison providing both an early-warning system and a first line of aerial defense. Deeper still, the subterranean Magma-Hold network connects the empire's volcanic chambers through lava-tube passages reinforced with dragon-fire runes, enabling Magma Drake patrols to move unseen beneath the surface.
