Seasonal Cycle

Aurixia's seasonal calendar is calibrated to geological and astronomical cycles rather than agricultural ones, reflecting the empire's volcanic heartland and ancient cosmological traditions.

The Year of Fire opens with the Season of Bloom-Ember, when snowmelt from the Flame-Crest Highlands feeds mineral-rich runoff into the Ashen Plains, triggering rare flowering events among heat-adapted flora. The empire-wide Rite of Renewal is observed during this season: every active dragon performs a controlled full-breath-weapon discharge at sunrise to demonstrate continued vitality, while Drakonian households light hearth-fires from brands carried directly from the Citadel's beacon flame.

The Season of Peak-Flame corresponds to the continent's hottest months, when volcanic activity intensifies and Magma Drakes extend their lava-channeling work to prevent uncontrolled surface eruptions. The Forge Festival takes place mid-season, a week-long celebration of craft in which Shard-Guild competitions, drake-fire displays, and Drake-Riding Tournaments draw visitors from across Landorya. Spark the Inventor traditionally presents new runic innovations at the Forge Festival; his demonstrations have introduced three significant advances to Aurixian engineering in the past century.

The Season of Ash-Harvest sees Ash Wyrms gathering mineral deposits laid down by the summer's volcanic activity, producing the raw materials for a new cycle of ash-sculpture and Archive crystal production. Winter brings the Season of Cold-Heart, during which volcanic activity dims and the empire observes the Ice-Fire Exchange: a diplomatic tradition in which Aurixia sends fire-gifts — crystals pre-charged with dragonfire — to allied peoples, receiving back gifts symbolic of their own elemental domain. The Ash-Balance ceremony closes the year with a public recitation of the Triad of Scales by the High Dragon-Lord.
