Magic & Arcane Infrastructure
23.1 Draconic Magic
The innate magic of dragons, drawn from the Plane of Fire. Manifests as breath weapons (fire, lava, ash, lightning, void-flame), scale-resonance (vibrating scales to create protective fields), and rune-inscription (dragons can etch runes with claw or breath).
23.2 Bonded Magic
Drakonians who undergo the Bond-Ritual gain access to a diminished form of Draconic Magic: fire-resistant skin, minor fire-manipulation, and telepathic communication with their bonded dragon. The strength of bonded magic varies; a few exceptional bonded riders have achieved feats nearly equal to a dragon's, though such cases are rare and the subject of intense scholarly debate.
23.3 Runic Infrastructure
Drake-Runes
a network of crystal towers transmitting flame-pulses for instant communication. Magma-Core Reactors
geothermal power stations stabilized by dragon-fire runes. Runic Forge-Lattices
precision temperature control in smithies. The network is maintained by the Runic Engineers' Guild, whose members undergo ten years of specialized training.
23.4 Regulation
The Codex of Scales and the Balance Codex jointly regulate magic use. Fire-magic output is capped at 5% of regional ambient heat. Ash-Siphon Warnings trigger automatic suppression protocols. The Order of the Scaled Guardians enforces compliance.
23.5 Arcane Research
Ongoing projects: Fire-Magic Amplification (increasing efficiency without ecological damage), Crystal Memory Expansion (growing the Archive's capacity), Aether-Drake Propulsion (improving sky-ship speed and range), and the controversial Void-Flame Containment Study (seeking to understand and safely harness void-flame under strictly controlled conditions, authorized by Aurexion but opposed by many on the Elder Council).
