Their stewardship ensures healthy fish populations, clean currents, and stable weather patterns influenced by ocean temperatures. Without Nereid intervention, many coastal settlements would face devastating storms and depleted fisheries.
6.3 Environmental Guardianship
The Nereids consider themselves stewards of the waters, a role assigned to them at the creation of the world. They monitor pollution, regulate overfishing in their territorial waters, and maintain the magical currents that stabilize Landorya's climate. The Ministry of Ocean Harmony coordinates these efforts across all of Nereidum.

The Nereids maintain a stance of neutrality, intervening only when the balance of the seas is threatened. They have advocated for stricter pollution controls among surface nations and have occasionally imposed trade embargoes on civilizations that damage marine environments.

The Nereids spearheaded the drafting of the Ocean Accords, a landmark inter-racial treaty signed by twelve coastal and island nations. The Accords establish protected marine zones, regulate deep-sea mining, and create a joint council for resolving maritime disputes. The treaty is enforced through a combination of Nereid surveillance magic and surface-nation naval patrols. Violations are adjudicated at annual Tidal Summits, where offending parties may face trade sanctions or restricted access to Nereid waters.
