Guild MastersLeaders of the professional guilds who set standards for craft quality, manage training programs, and regulate economic activity within their domains.
Master ArtistsRecognized practitioners who have achieved mastery in their art form. They train apprentices and contribute to the cultural direction of society.
CitizensAll Nereids are actively engaged in their community, contributing their art and participating in decision-making. Social support ensures everyone has what they need to pursue their art.

19.2 Family & Kinship

Nereid families are close-knit and often include extended relatives living in the same coral complex. Family bonds are strong, and multi-generational households are common. The family unit is organized around a shared coral dwelling called a reef-home, which grows and expands as children are born and relatives join the household. Family identity is expressed through shared musical motifs that are woven into each member's birth-song.

19.3 Social Mobility

Entirely merit-based. Any Nereid can rise to the Pearl Court through demonstrated artistic excellence and service to the community. Birth status carries no special privilege. A kelp farmer's child who shows exceptional talent may be apprenticed to a Guild Master and eventually rise to the highest positions in society.

19.4 Community Governance

Decisions affecting a local neighborhood or district are made through communal assemblies called Reef Councils. Any resident may attend and speak. Decisions are reached by consensus; if consensus cannot be achieved, the matter is escalated to the City Governor. This system ensures that even the smallest community voice is heard before any policy is implemented.
