Ecosystem & Environment

Biodiversity and Adaptation
The volcanic regions of Drakon host an array of fire-resistant creatures and plants adapted to the harsh environment. Drakon is a volcanic, mountainous region, home to dragons and Drakonians.

Volcanic Cycles and Adaptation

Ecosystem Cycles
Life in Drakon revolves around the cycles of the volcanoes, with periods of relative calm punctuated by fiery eruptions. The Drakonians have learned to read the subtle signs of volcanic activity
changes in gas emissions, tremors in the deep rock, and shifts in lava flows
and have adapted their settlement patterns and agricultural practices accordingly.

Tourism and Outsider Visits

Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Practices
Visitors to Drakon must be prepared for the harsh environment and respect the Drakonians' way of life. Drakon sees few tourists due to its harsh environment, but some adventurers seek to test themselves against the flames.

Experiential and Adventure Activities
Popular activities include volcano hikes, blacksmithing workshops, and dragon watching.

Accommodations and Hospitality
Visitors stay in fire-resistant structures and are treated to Drakonian cuisine and martial displays.

The Ashen Barrens

Beyond the inhabited volcanic highlands lies a vast expanse known as the Ashen Barrens
a desolate plain of hardened lava flows, ash dunes, and sulfurous geysers. Few Drakonians venture here willingly, as it is considered cursed ground where the restless spirits of unbonded dragons are said to wander. However, the Ashen Barrens contain rich deposits of rare minerals, and the Ministry of the Forge occasionally commissions hazardous mining expeditions into the region. The most notable feature is the Obsidian Mirror Lake, a vast expanse of perfectly smooth volcanic glass formed by a cataclysmic eruption in ages past. On clear nights, the lake reflects the stars with such clarity that Aeriel astronomers have traveled to Drakon specifically to observe from its shores.

The Ember Caverns

Deep beneath the volcanic mountains lie the Ember Caverns, a network of magma-heated tunnels and chambers that extend for hundreds of miles. These caverns serve as nesting grounds for the lesser drakes and as training environments for young Dragon Guard recruits. The deepest chambers, known as the Heartforge Depths, are said to reach down to the very mantle of the world, where temperatures exceed what even Drakonians can withstand without magical protection.
