Inter-Regional Dynamics
Historical Alliances and Conflicts
Drakonians have had a tumultuous relationship with other races, often viewed as aggressive and territorial. They have had conflicts with the Aeriels and Sylvan Elves over resources and territory. The Drakonians are often seen as aggressive and expansionist, leading to conflicts with other races, particularly the Sylvan Elves and Frostborn. However, they are also respected for their skill in metallurgy and sought after as allies in times of war.
Diplomatic Relations
Drakonians are often seen as difficult negotiators, but they respect strength and honor above all. The current Ambassador of the Flame, Voryn Ashveil, is considered unusually diplomatic for a Drakonian
a quality that has earned him both praise from foreign courts and suspicion from hardliners within the Obsidian Order. Voryn maintains permanent embassies in three foreign capitals and has negotiated several landmark trade agreements that have reduced border tensions significantly.
Trade and Economic Interactions
Drakonians trade weapons, armor, and rare metals. They import food and other resources scarce in their volcanic homeland. As skilled craftsmen, the Eldorians trade in high-quality metalwork, weapons, and magical items and have trade agreements with the Drakonians among others. The Islanders, with their advanced ships, are the primary sea traders of Landorya and have trade agreements with the Drakonians.
Racial Interactions and Conflicts
- The Celestial Order often serves as mediators between races due to their wisdom and neutrality. However, they can come into conflict with races that seek to misuse celestial magic or disrupt the balance of the world.
- The Sylvan Elves have a close alliance with the Eldorians due to their shared respect for nature. However, they often clash with the Drakonians over the use of natural resources and the expansion of Drakonian territory.
- The Nomads of Aurora trade with various races but remain neutral in conflicts. They serve as messengers and diplomats, using their skills in storytelling to maintain peace.
- The Frostborn have a strong alliance with the Eldorians, trading resources and knowledge. However, they can come into conflict with the Drakonians over territory in the mountains.
- The Aeriels remain aloof from most conflicts, focusing on their studies of the stars. However, they will intervene if they foresee a major threat to the balance of the world.
- The Nereids are generally peaceful and prefer to avoid conflicts. They use their musical and artistic abilities to foster understanding between races.
- The Mystarans are enigmatic and rarely involve themselves in the affairs of other races. They are sought after for their prophetic abilities and knowledge of ancient magic, but their predictions can be cryptic and open to interpretation.
Key Alliances
- Frostborn and Drakonians: Despite their differing environments, these races have a mutual respect for strength and combat prowess. They occasionally form military alliances against common threats.
Key Rivalries
- Drakonians and Sylvan Elves: The expansionist tendencies of the Drakonians often bring them into conflict with the Sylvan Elves, who fiercely protect their forests from encroachment.
Social Interactions
- Many races of Landorya participate in joint festivals and celebrations, such as the solstices and equinoxes. These events serve as opportunities for cultural exchange and the strengthening of bonds between races.
The Treaty of Cinder and Root
The most significant diplomatic event in recent Drakonian history is the Treaty of Cinder and Root, negotiated between the Drakonians and the Sylvan Elves after the devastating Ashfall Border War. Brokered by the Nomads of Aurora in the neutral territory of the Whispering Sands, the treaty established a demilitarized buffer zone along the Drakon-Eldar Forest border known as the Charred Threshold. Neither race may establish permanent settlements in this strip of land, though both are permitted to harvest specific resources under agreed quotas. The treaty has held for forty-seven years, though tensions periodically flare when Drakonian mining operations encroach too close to the boundary.
